BEYOND THE PORTAL OF THE TWILIGHT WORLD:
This painting is the centre point of the book "Realm of the Ring Lords" by Laurence Gardner. It is a complete allegory of the book in every way - depicting all the major elements of the volume. The subject matter of the book and painting can best be described by the author himself, whose words follow: " During these past years of my questing for the physical and spiritual aspects of the Holy Grail, it has become very apparent that the mythology and historical traditions of the Ring Quest are equally compelling. Moreover, the time-honoured quests for the Ring and Grail are, in essence, one and the same since they are both concerned with aspects of enlightenment and individual sovereignty. This similarity was commented upon in the 19th century by the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and in later times by J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the popular trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. Despite the observations of these noted researchers, however, it is a fact that the Ring and the Grail have generally been perceived to have separate identities and their individual traditions are rarely discussed as being in any way mutually supportive. IT IS, THEREFORE, THE PURPOSE OF THIS BOOK AND PETER ROBSON'S PAINTING TO BRING THE TWO MYSTERIES TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ONE ARENA AND, IN SO DOING, TO SHED NEW LIGHT UPON THE HISTORICAL TRUTHS WHICH LIE BEHIND THESE ENIGMATIC RELICS OF SACRED HERITAGE.
